Digital transformation refers to the radical change that the "deep" adoption of digital technologies brings. The first wave of technological innovation was about using technologies to improve existing processes and ways of doing business. But digital technologies offer new opportunities to do things in radically different ways. Smart businesses and startups leapfrog the laggards and leave them far behind. This is because digital technologies give us the opportunity to do more, to go deeper, and to transform the way we work. The transformation impacts everything, from leadership styles and organisational strategy and planning, organisational change processes, how innovation is handled, the rapidity and frequency of change, habits and assumptions about how services can be delivered, organisational value chains, people's jobs, and governance. It also raises issues like privacy, public perceptions and information security in new ways. Because it is new territory, it brings unintended consequences and uncertainties that have to be factored into the way an organisation plans and implements change. It requires agility.

About the Speakers
Shaharudin Mohd Ishak is Deputy Director in the Digitalisation and Knowledge Management Division at Enterprise Singapore, and an Exco member of ISKO Singapore. He is responsible for digital transformation effort at Enterprise Singapore and for various key Knowledge Management initiatives, including the organisation-wide Knowledge audit, Knowledge transfers and retention program, Knowledge sharing and awareness program and the award-winning IEX intranet (IBF). He has a Bachelor of Science in Computing with Management and a passion for social media and content marketing. Shaharudin's experience includes 9 years in the area of Intranets and Knowledge Management. Maish Nichani is Director at PebbleRoad, a UX consultancy based in Singapore, and at OlaSearch, a unique company that builds customised search interfaces to content collections. He has been an active member of the design community since 2000, having spoken at international conferences, held workshops, written articles and even contributed two books on design. Maish is Vice President of the International Society for Knowledge Organization Singapore Chapter and co-founder of the "Innovations in Knowledge Organisation" Conference. Phua Boon Leng is concurrently Director (Customer Systems and Experience), and Director (WINS Project Office) within the Ministry of Manpower. He is responsible for service transformation in the Work Pass Division of the Ministry of Manpower though redeveloping the new Work Pass Integrated Systems, business process reengineering and service design. In his past stint as Director, Customer Responsiveness & QSM, Boon Leng successfully launched an award winning MOM website, and introduced several innovations to better engage customers and improve service experiences. He was also instrumental in formulating MOM’s service blueprint to align customer service philosophy and strategy within MOM. Euan Semple (participating remotely) helps organisations, and more importantly the people in them, get their heads around the impact of technology whether, social media, blockchain or AI and automation. He has unique experience in doing this from his time at the BBC where his last two jobs were Head Of Digilab, talent spotting new technologies and explaining them to the business, and Director of Knowledge Management under which his team deployed social enterprise systems - forums, blogs and wikis - on a significant scale. Since leaving the BBC Euan has worked with major organisations such as BP, the World Bank, and NATO and has unique insights into how to make the latest technologies work for you and your organisation. Euan's book Organizations Don't Tweet, People Do is on sale in bookshops around the world. His website is at www.euansemple.com. Huang Zhongwen is Director (Digital Planning Lab) at the Urban Redevelopment Authority (URA), where he leads the team in spearheading digitalisation efforts for smart planning, building up digital planning capabilities among URA officers, and fostering innovation with various stakeholders. In his current and previous roles, he led several digital initiatives to drive the capability development of Planning Analytics and Digital Planning Tools coupled with planning workflow redesign, to achieve more data-informed planning processes. These initiatives included multiple projects that were cross/multi-agency partnerships or collaborations with research entities. |
