In 2019 the Chartered Institute of Library and Information Professionals (CILIP) launched the world's first professional registration scheme for Chartered Knowledge Managers, based on a peer-reviewed professional portfolio. It is the first Professional Registration scheme in Knowledge Management backed by Royal Charter.
CILIP worked with a group of leading international knowledge management practitioners and experts to develop the programme, which included a systematic review of the CILIP competency framework (Professional Knowledge and Skills Base) to incorporate knowledge management skills and competencies.
The scheme enrolled a pilot cohort for KM Chartership in Q1 2019 and in 2020 announced its first Chartered Knowledge Manager. Candidates continue to be enrolled internationally in small cohorts. A pilot for KM Fellowship is now also in progress.

In this panel, comprising two of the CILIP programme leads, and two successful candidates, we will explore the rationale, development and benefits of the KM Chartership programme, and answer our member's questions.

Jo Cornish Jo Cornish is Head of Sector Development at CILIP, and leads the CILIP Sector Development Team, which is committed to understanding the current and future needs of the profession and developing services accordingly. Jo is founder director of CILIP's end point assessment organisation, CILIP Pathways. She has been a key driver in rolling out the KM Chartership programme, and the review of the Professional Knowledge and Skills Base for knowledge management. Jo is a Fellow of CILIP, with over 20 years’ experience as a practitioner, and she specialises in building strategic partnerships. Jo is a passionate advocate for the importance of library, knowledge and information roles and the value they bring to society. Jo is also a mentor for candidates on CILIP's Chartership programme. Sonia Ramdhian Sonia Ramdhian is CILIP's KM Professional registration expert, and New Business Development Manager. She works with colleagues across the organisation to identify and exploit opportunities for business development and growth. Her current focus is on extending and deepening CILIP's services to the Knowledge Management community; and in 2021-22 Sonia will be looking at CILIP's services to professionals working in the Data Science and Analytics community. Sonia has worked as an Information Officer, as a Business Information Researcher, and as an Information Research Services Manager in several large finance and technology companies. Azlinayati Manaf Azlinayati Manaf is a long standing and deeply experienced knowlewdge manager based in Kuala Lumpur. She has a distinguished background in data science, data analytics, knowledge organisation and knowledge management, and she is Malaysia's first successful candidate for CILIP's KM Chartership, with her award announced in April 2021. Azlinayati previously worked as Knowledge Manager at the International Centre for Islamic Finance (INCEIF) in Kuala Lumpur, and as Team Lead for the Knowledge Engineering team at MIMOS Berhad, conducting requirements gathering, analysing clients' requirements and data, designing prototype systems and managing the implementation of knowledge base applications in several commercial projects and pilots/ proofs of concept in data and text analytics. She has a Master's degree in Computer Science from Manchester University. Elena Costello Elena Costello is CILIP's first accredited Chartered Knowledge Manager. She is a Civil Engineer and an Associate with Arup University's Knowledge & Information Group, with over 26 years of international experience providing project, information and knowledge management services on energy, healthcare, infrastructure, healthcare and transport projects. As well as being fluent in her native Russian, Elena speaks English and Italian. Her skills and experience in working on multidisciplinary projects providing knowledge and project management expertise led to her involvement in a wide range of knowledge management projects external to Arup in the United Kingdom, Russia and Italy, as well as internal programmes and initiatives in KM. She also helps Arup's business development efforts through demonstrating the impact of KM at Arup on all services offered by the business. Elena also has a role to in getting Arup's KM capability recognised internationally, through networking with KM practitioners in other regions., through presenting at external KM events and by helping the business to receive prestigious awards such as APQC’s Excellence in KM Award (2020). |
