WORKSHOP: TAXON0MY 101
Taxonomies and vocabulary control underpin any systematic, enterprise wide approach to knowledge and information management. They also help to make search smarter, and lie behind many machine learning applications including auto-tagging of content. This workshop will introduce participants to the fundamentals behind taxonomy design. It will cover how to identify the business purpose for a taxonomy, develop use cases for how taxonomy and search will be used, and the sources of evidence for what should go into a taxonomy. Participants will cover the criteria for how to decide whether to include or exclude terms in a taxonomy, and there will be a practical exercise in building and testing a small taxonomy.
